What are some of our activities? Wow! When you write it all down, it turns out that we do a lot...
| Monthly Activities | Bimonthly - Quarterly - Semi-Annual - Annual |
Monthly Gathering - The second Friday of each month we offer a get-together for members at the Marlboro Free Library. There is usually a speaker. Generally open to the public, subject to change. Click here for some photos of our March 2002 meeting. Check your local newspaper or e-mail us for details.
TTT (Third Thursday Therapy) - A monthly lunch, usually at an Italian Restaurant in Poughkeepsie.
Pizza SIG (Special Interest Group) - Each month, we go on a quest to find a pizza worthy of earning our legendary "8 slice" rating. Those that have come the closest (7 or better) are listed in our Pizza SIG Hall of Fame. Once a year, we try to have a joint Pizza SIG with our neighbors to the west, MOST (Mensa of the Southern Tier, also known as "the Binghamton chapter.")
Smoke-Free Dining at a local restaurant with Andi Weis-Bartok. Join Andi for a smoke free dining experience.
| Every Other Month | Monthly - Quarterly - Semi-Annual - Annual |
Executive Committee Meeting [Odd-numbered Months] - Elected officers are required to attend, appointed officers are encouraged to attend, and otherwise the meeting is open to any members.
Mensa Qualification Exam [1st Sunday of
Even-numbered Months] - The Mensa Qualification Exam will be
given at the Marlboro Free Library. If you live in our geographic area and are interested in
signing up for the exam, contact our proctor coordinator.
| Quarterly Events | Monthly - Bimonthly - Semi-Annual - Annual |
Games Night [Approximately every 3 Months] - An evening of games at a member's house. The games may be studious, social, or team-oriented. Sometimes we may have a theme, such as "Learn a New Game Night," or "East vs. West" (of the Hudson River.)
| Semi-Annual (or Thereabouts) | Monthly - Bimonthly - Quarterly - Annual |
Animation Festival [Spring and Fall] - Bill Zigo hosts this event at his home, featuring a wide range of animation videos, from classic cartoons to the latest award-winners to the truly silly.
Museum Meandering [Spring and Fall] - A field
trip to a not-quite-local museum. Past expeditions have
journeyed to the Guggenheim Museum
and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This event usually draws attendees from several neighboring
chapters.
| Annual Events | Monthly - Bimonthly - Quarterly - Semi-Annual |
Science Fairs [March, April] - Members are invited to donate some of their time as judges for school science fairs in Dutchess County.
Scholarship Fund Gift Wrapping - [December] Barnes & Noble decrees a day as 'Mensa Day' and we're invited to wrap gifts for donations to our scholarship fund.
Green Eggs and Ham brunch [March] - Our annual tribute to both Dr. Seuss and St. Patrick. A buffet-style brunch at a member's house (which, by the way, has a great view of the Hudson River.)
Balloon Festival [May or June] - Mid-Hudson Mensa participates at the Great Hudson Valley Balloon Race. Each year we help run the information booth, plus we are allowed to sell some items which help benefit our local scholarship fund.
Moonlight Madness [Summer] - One of our members, with a back yard overlooking the Hudson River, hosts an evening party on or near the night of a full moon. We sip champagne, listen to new age or classical music, and watch the moon rise over the Hudson River. Very relaxing.
Autumn In New York [September] - Our annual Regional Gathering, held at the SUNY New Paltz Ashokan Field Campus, near the Ashokan Reservoir. You must register for this event.
Christmas Party [December] - Typically our December monthly meeting is a Christmas party featuring our "Gimmee-Grabbee Gift Exchange."
New Year's Eve Bad Film Festival - Featuring the best
of the worst in cinema. In addition to the works of the
master, Ed Wood
